HOW WE SUPPORT THE CURRICULUM
Young people are motivated and inspired to pick up a pen and write, with an understanding of what makes an effective story. We support the new English national curriculum in the following areas:
Write accurately, fluently, effectively and at length for pleasure and information, through stories and other imaginative writing.
Plan, draft, edit and proofread.
KEY OUTCOMES
1) Improved verbal communication skills by explaining the concept of their work.
2) Presentation skills developed as they retell their stories in front of their peers.
3) Increased critical thinking skills by discussing each other’s ideas.
4) Improved written communication skills through developing their story.
5) Increased confidence through active participation in creative tasks.
6) Team working skills developed through collaborating to create a story.
CASE STUDIES
In 2019 we delivered comic story workshop session as part of The StoryBoard for the Mayor of London Culture Seeds. In all, 13 sessions were delivered across two partners, Pop Brixton in Lambeth and Prendergast Ladywell Secondary School in Lewisham.
15 young people attended and worked through the process of creating their own comic stories and characters with the support of mayamada co-founder Nigel Twumasi.
